Mobile Computing

iPhone, iPod, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Tablets

Computing is entering its fifth generation with desktop Internet applications giving way to a new generation of Mobile Internet applications.

The use of the Internet on smartphones and other mobile devices has changed the way people communicate and consume information, creating an exponential rise in the acceptance, adoption, and usage of data.

With the ability to access information at any time, in any location, on a hand-held device, consumers can now make more and more decisions quickly and easily.

Mobile apps and business information access will likely eclipse desktop information access in the near future.

Some predict this will have a far greater impact and adoption than any previous cycle.

In 2009 we decided to test the mobile market by launching our first app – an ebook – into the iTunes store.

It did very well.  So we launched another app, and then another… After 20 paid apps and 20,000 mobile customers later we're convinced this is a market to be taken seriously. After our success in iTunes we published apps on Android, and then on the Amazon appstore.

This was followed by apps on Blackberry.   We then went global and launched native apps in France and Korea to learn more, and gain insight into the possible scope of this market.

What started out as a small test app went on to become our Phoneflips division! Launching a successful app takes more than luck.

It takes a combination of good design, cost effective development and some very important social marketing tricks, otherwise you will just waste time and lose money.

Do it right, and mobile apps can be profitable.

Strategic.

One thing is certain.   Any successful entry into the mobile market needs a well thought-out and well planned strategy that includes a strong emphasis on social media and social marketing!

With the rapid evolution of mobile computing platforms, new challenges have emerged for businesses as well as application developers. Much like the early days of web and desktop computing, each platform has its own development model, including programming language, framework, tools, and different deployment options. These challenges add time, cost, and complexity to delivering applications across the web, the desktop, and the many mobile device platforms.   There is a cost-effective solution.

If  you are considering a forray into the Mobile market, whether it be with a free or paid app, a game or a book, or you have a need to turn smartphones into a two-way sales tool for your customers and staff, or even delivering business intelligence to these devices, we can make it happen.

We have good working knowledge on demographics by smartphone platform, mobile app security, marketing, the power of app reviews, advertising do's and don'ts, and lots more we'd be happy to share.
